Digital microphones can require hundreds of microwatts and therefore many IoT systems opt to utilize analog microphones to turn on their systems as they offer much lower power levels. We have evaluated the primary competitors and found that although they claim lower power in a quiet environment, that in a noisy environment they have no ability to discriminate between sounds of interest and and background noise and therefore they are really not low power at all.  That is where Sparrow comes in. Sparrow offers programmable level and frequency information which means it can be used in a noisy environment and turn on downstream components such as an AI KWS digital controller only when there is a signal of interest.  Best of all Sparrow uses <19uA to do that. It also offers sensitivity from -50…0dBV at 94dbspl, 120dBspl AOP and >53dBa SNR all in a standard 3.5×2.7mm microphone package. These specifications are perfect for the needs of AI audio systems such as smart speakers or LLM/GPT. Best of all Sparrow is available at a fraction of the cost of competitors’ piezo based systems and is the only MEMs based analog microphone on the market with this type of smart activity detector.
